Youturn’s StandBy and Youth Enhanced Service (YES) Adelaide teams, recently celebrated the launch of ‘Changing the Landscape’ led by Switchboard Victoria, a national campaign calling on the healthcare sector and governments to take action towards a suicide prevention system where LGBTIQA+SB people are recognised, considered and supported. This includes the national release of the Changing the Landscape Statement, a statement on the necessity of LGBTIQA+SB leadership and lived experience across all parts of Australian healthcare to achieve the highest attainable standards of suicide prevention for all LGBTIQA+SB people.
Kath Kelly, LGBTIQA+ Working Group Lead and Partnership Coordinator at StandBy National, has been instrumental in the development of the campaign.
“It has been a privilege to have been involved in the development of Switchboard’s ‘Changing the Landscape’ declaration and campaign. I am personally proud of StandBy’s ongoing commitment and endeavours in advocating for and creating a future of affirming and safe suicide postvention services for LGBTIQA+SB people and communities across the country,” Kath said.
Nicole Cool, Program Manager for StandBy National, was also invited to speak at the launch event, with the StandBy National office hosting a lunch to celebrate.
LGBTIQA+SB people deserve to feel hopeful about their futures, hopeful about their ability to live full lives, and be able to access safe and affirming suicide prevention care when they need it most.
