Mental Health
Good mental health and wellbeing enables us to cope with the normal stresses of life, realise our abilities, participate in the community, work productively. However, mental ill-health accounts for 35% of the global economic burden of non-communicable diseases ― more than cancer, diabetes and heart disease. Across the whole lifespan, young people aged 10-24 years bear the major burden for onset and impact of poor mental health globally. Recent reports indicate that mental health for young Australians is worsening, with rates of psychological distress increasing 5.5% in the past seven years alone.
Youturn’s mental health support services are for young people going through a tough time and needing friendly youth support. We work closely with young people to help get their lives back on track providing clinical and non-clinical support services such as social groups and activities.
Youturn is a provider of the Youth Enhanced Service (YES), providing care to young people aged 12 to 25 who are experiencing complex mental health conditions. The YES program has a team of clinicians and healthcare professionals who provide psychological support and other care as needed.
These services are currently available in Darling Downs & West Moreton, with programs expected to commence in the Adelaide metropolitan region in July 2023.
Youturn has been providing youth mental health services through the headspace model since 2012. Since opening our first centre in Maroochydore we now have five centres funded across three Primary Health Network areas in South Queensland. Youturn is the lead agency for headspace centres in Toowoomba, Bundaberg, Maroochydore, Caboolture and Gympie.
headspace provides free, non-judgemental and confidential support services based in a youth friendly centre. headspace supports young people transitioning into adulthood, providing mental health, physical and sexual health, work and study support as well as alcohol and other drug interventions.
