The latest version of Edge of the Present (EOTP), a Virtual Reality (VR) experience is offering a forward-thinking solution to the rising mental health concerns among young Australians. Youturn has once again partnered with the Big Anxiety Research Centre at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) to bring the innovative mental health intervention to headspace centres, and local shopping centres, across South East Queensland.
The EOTP VR experience offers a 10-minute immersive journey, guiding users through stunning, mixed-reality landscapes aimed at enhancing mood, wellbeing, and promoting positive future thinking. Early results show that the program is effective in easing feelings of hopelessness and fostering a sense of calm and mindfulness.
As part of Mental Health Month in October, the EOTP VR experience was available for free at headspace Maroochydore, giving young people the chance to try this unique tool while waiting for appointments. The experience was also showcased at the Sunshine Plaza for seven days, offering the general public a chance to explore the program and provide valuable feedback. One participant, deeply moved, commented, “I could stay here forever,” as the virtual landscapes evoked many happy memories.
The latest version of EOTP is more mobile, allowing it to expand into new regions for further research and feedback. This extension is supported by Youturn’s partnership with Movember, increasing the program’s reach and impact.
The return of EOTP to the Sunshine Coast and its expansion to other areas, made possible by the support of Movember, reinforces Youturn’s dedication to making mental health support more accessible and effective.
