October marked Mental Health Month, a time to reflect on the increasing pressures facing mental health services across the country. In response to this rising demand, Youturn actively sought innovative solutions to support the mental health of young people. During this Mental Health Month, local communities united to raise both funds and awareness, all with the shared goal of promoting healthy minds for brighter futures.
Youturn was fortunate to partner with White’s IGA, Nutworks, and Zarraffas Coffee, who helped spread the word and raise funds through their stores and limited-edition confectioneries. These local businesses played an integral role in supporting the cause.
All six White’s IGA stores in Bli Bli, Baringa, Forest Glen, Peregian Beach, Mt Coolum, and Mooloolah stocked their shelves with limited-edition Youturn Nutworks confectionery. With each purchase of these Premium Australian Macadamias, all proceeds went directly to supporting young people’s mental health.
“White’s IGA’s partnership with Youturn went to the heart of creating a positive impact in the community through unity and collaboration. Together with the unwavering support of our incredible community, we overcame challenges, reached milestones, and celebrated positivity. Together, we were all stronger.” Roz White, Owner of White’s IGA
Zarraffa’s Coffee stores on the Sunshine Coast promoted the Because Giving Feels Great campaign. Zarraffa’s Coffee donated 5,000 complimentary coffee cards, which were distributed by Youturn and Zarraffa’s throughout the month, encouraging customers to pay it forward by gifting a coffee card to someone else. The Because Giving Feels Great campaign sparked important conversations, helping to reduce the stigma around mental health.
Youturn has provides early intervention mental health services to 12 – 25 year olds through six headspace sites and centres in South East Queensland (Bribie Island, Bundaberg, Caboolture, Gympie, Maroochydore and Toowoomba), which are funded by three Primary Health Networks (PHN’s). headspace provides free, non-judgemental and confidential support services based in a youth friendly centre. headspace supports young people transitioning into adulthood, providing mental health, physical and sexual health, work and study support as well as alcohol and other drug interventions.
Youturn is also a provider of the Youth Enhanced Service (YES), providing care to young people aged 12 to 25 who are experiencing complex mental health conditions. The YES program has a team of clinicians and healthcare professionals who provide psychological support and other care as needed. These services are currently available in Darling Downs & West Moreton, and in the Adelaide metropolitan region.
Given the growing demand for mental health services, fueled by factors such as the pandemic and the national rental crisis, many young people struggled to access the support they needed, often facing long wait times. To meet this demand, Youturn continues to focus on raising funds for additional tools and innovative solutions to complement its mental health programs and ensure more young people receive the support they require.
