Naomi* a 35 year old mother, had relocated to the Sunshine Coast to live with her new partner. However, a break down in the relationship soon resulted in Naomi and her two children finding themselves homeless.
Whilst being in desperate need of securing safe and ongoing accommodation, Naomi was also struggling with behavioural challenges experienced by her 5-year-old daughter, which had led to a long period of unemployment.
After reaching out to Youturn for support, Naomi was able to find the help she needed. With assistance from Youturn, Naomi was able to help her 5-year-old daughter with medical support for expected Autism Spectrum Disorder, and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.
With this, as well as assistance to ensure her vehicle was roadworthy, and she had regular access to all the necessities she and her family needed such as food and fuel, Naomi was able to find her feet through short-term accommodation provided by Youturn’s Immediate Housing Response for Families program.
Whilst housed in short-term accommodation, Naomi received ongoing case management support from Youturn. Her Case Officer continued to strongly advocate for Naomi and her children in weekly meetings with the Department of Housing and Public Works, and provided written references to support her private rental applications with the hopes of opening more opportunities to support Naomi identify long term accommodation.
Youturn also continued to support Naomi through her employment applications and medical assessments for her 5-year-old daughter.
With this support, Naomi was successful in obtaining long term accommodation in a 3-bedroom property, for herself and her two children. Now having safe and stable housing, Naomi was able to secure ongoing employment with Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) at her children’s school, providing continued stability for her and her family.
