Program Eligibility
and Expectations

Tewantin Homelessness Support

Youturn’s homelessness services in Tewantin are here to support people who have a housing need or are experiencing homelessness.

If you are looking to enter our programs, or referring a community member to our programs, please find out more about the program requirements for these services below.

Immediate Housing Response (IHR) Program

Short-term temporary accommodation for Queenslanders primarily based in the Noosa Local Government Area, who are experiencing, or at immediate risk of homelessness. Includes support through Specialist Homelessness Services (SHS) to transition towards longer-term housing.

Those receiving support through the IHR program must:

  • aged 18 years or older
  • have a current Housing application processing with the Department of Housing, or complete one within the first 7 days once entering the program
  • provide one recent income statement
    contribute approximately 25% of total cost for hotel / motel stay.
  • provide current ID
  • have no other short-term options for housing, or an option to stay with family or friends
  • always abide by the hotel / motel rules including no smoking in the rooms (only in designated areas)
  • understand and agree that no visitors are permitted during hotel / motel stay, and
  • understand and agree to engage in support from Youturn, including weekly meetings to achieve housing goals with a Youturn Support Worker.

Outreach or Centre Based Support

Support for individuals, couples and families aged over 16 years. Outreach support is provided in public spaces where people may be experiencing homelessness or sleeping rough, across the Noosa Local Government Area. Centre Based Support is provided at the Youturn Tewantin Community Centre, enabling use of centre-based facilities including laundry, shower amenities and community kitchen. Emergency Relief support is also available by appointment.

Outreach and Centre Based Support may include:

  • case management support to achieve goals
  • support with social housing applications, obtaining identification, budgeting and debt management
  • advocacy to agencies for long term housing solutions
  • provision of resources to support those sleeping rough
  • referrals to external services

Temporary Supported Accommodation

Short-term accommodation and housing assistance to support young families and/or couples aged 16 to 25 years, based in the Sunshine Coast region, as they move towards independent longer-term housing. Support may include:

  • case management support to achieve goals
  • support with long-term housing solutions
  • support creating and maintaining a budget, and debt help
  • tenancy skills courses
  • referrals to external services

Residents of Temporary Supported Accommodation, must:

  • be available for weekly home visits and case management,
  • participate in weekly phone call check ins as part of their department of Housing application,
  • be working towards goals, including employment, study, and budgeting,
  • maintain cleanliness of the property, including reporting any damage to property team,
  • prepare property for quarterly inspections,
  • complete a Tenancy Skills Course, and
  • engage in support to address any barriers to independent housing.

Crisis Accommodation

Crisis accommodation with 24-hour supervised support for those aged 16 to 25 years, who are experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness. With a maximum of 4 residents at any one time, this accommodation provides a safe and inclusive environment, supporting residents to achieve their goals, and overcome barriers to finding long term stable accommodation. Support may include:

  • referrals to external specialist services
  • weekly activities and goal planning
  • applications for long-term housing solutions

Residents of Crisis Accommodation, must:

  • attend weekly case management meetings
  • complete 15 hours per week towards personal goals such as job hunting, studying, volunteering, or attending appointments
  • participate in daily and weekly chores, plus cook one meal per week
  • attend the weekly house meeting
  • follow house rules, including curfew, respectful behavior, and no drugs or alcohol on-site
  • pay board and lodgings based on individual income
