As part of the $2 million State Government Unite and Recover Stimulus Package, Youturn is extremely pleased with the recent announcement by Noosa Council to invest in much needed improvements to amenities and grassroots type projects which in turn will provide tangible benefits to the community.
One of the projects identified is a $60,000 upgrade of Youturn’s laundry, shower and toilet facilities to help the at risk, vulnerable and homeless in our local community.
Youturn’s CEO, Andrew Anderson said: “We are grateful to Noosa Council and the Queensland State Government for the much needed funds, which will fast track a number of critical infrastructure projects, such as the Youturn laundry facilities for those who are doing it tough in our community.”
The upgrades to Youturn’s Shower, Laundry and Toilet Facilities will commence this month and is expected to be completed by December 2020 Equipped with 2 washers, 2 dryers, 3 showers and 3 toilets, the upgraded facilities will be a welcome addition to the Emergency Relief services and support that Youturn offers.
“For most people a morning shower is something you take for granted, but for someone living on the street or in a car, a simple warm shower and a place to wash their clothes can give them a little dignity and mean the world,” said Anderson.
The number of Australians aged 18 to 24 who experienced higher levels of housing stress increased threefold between April and May 2020, from 10.3% to 27.5% according to the Australian National University, Covid-19 Data
These are sobering statistics, and more so during this time of COVID, when many in our community have fallen on hard times,” concluded Anderson.
