StandBy develops resources for Deaf community

StandBy Support After Suicide has recently developed a range of new tailored resources, including videos and factsheets, to support those bereaved and impacted by suicide in the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Community.

Deaf Australia is a Deaf-led advocacy and information organisation in Australia representing all Deaf, Deafblind, hard-of-hearing people and others who use Auslan as their language of preference.

The collaboration highlighted that the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community find it challenging to connect with mainstream organisations that are not culturally and linguistically safe, and the need for bespoke postvention resources to better support those bereaved and impacted by suicide.

The resources are now available on the StandBy website, and via Deaf Connect’s social channels.

The collaboration not only developed the bespoke range of new resources but also commits to a long-term and ongoing working relationship, including staff deaf awareness training delivered by Expression Australia, and new options for connections into the StandBy program.
