Youturn Youth Support is shopping where the local’s shop, at our nearest IGA Supermarkets, with IGA gift cards now part of the support package for people accessing our emergency relief services.
Each month, Youturn supports around 40 – 50 people in emergency relief to help meet their basic living costs such as food, shelter, hygiene and transport. With the impacts of COVID increasing, so too are basic support needs across our community, explains General Manager – Homelessness, Darce Foley.
“Support needs are high and are forecast to rise again as welfare subsidies are pulled back and our economy is slower to recover. In response we expect that Youturn will be increasing our spend on grocery vouchers. IGA Supermarkets are locally owned, source local produce, and is where locals like to shop – so it made perfect sense to partner with IGA Supermarkets in supplying our grocery vouchers”, Mr Foley said.
IGA, with their network of 1400 independent family owned stores, care about their community and what matters to locals. The Whites IGA chain of five stores across the Sunshine Coast have also been active in supporting Youturn, by selling our wrist bands to fundraise for our youth homelessness cause.
Emergency Relief is available at Tewantin (Sunshine Coast) on Monday, Tuesday and Thursdays from 9am to 2pm and includes: food vouchers (IGA), non-perishable groceries, emergency and temporary accommodation, rent, utility bills, health care assistance, fuel, community referrals and transport assistance.
