”Being a real parent isn’t in the DNA, it’s in the heart.”

Foster and Kinship carers open their hearts and homes to children and young people who are unable to live at home with their own families because of abuse or neglect.

Often children can be reunited with their families or parents as circumstances change, so foster carers help to assist with the care of a child until this can be achieved.  But in some cases the children and young people will remain in foster care until they reach the legal, age of 18.

Who can be a carer?

Anyone who is willing to provide children and young people with a stable, supportive and nurturing home can apply to become a foster or kinship carer.

Youturn’s Foster and Kinship Carer program consists of a small team of passionate and dedicated case workers who are all committed to walking alongside our carers through all stages of the process. Not only are we there to support, mentor and guide carers, but we offer a variety of training programs.

If you believe you have the ability and capacity to help change a child’s life, by providing a safe and loving home, or if you are interested in finding out more information, please reach out to us.

“My words of wisdom to anyone thinking about becoming a foster parent is to go all in.  You will never regret the investment of time, love and compassion you have sown into the life of a child.”

Sarah Dumas – Foster Parent

In Australia, the number of children in care continues to rise and we desperately need more safe and loving homes for them.
If you feel you are able to gift a child a family, please contact us.

Foster families work

“When we realised there was a need for fostering, the idea appealed to our hearts.  As a family, we saw a chance to help provide opportunities for children who may not otherwise receive them. While we aren’t perfect parents, we really wanted to give it a go.

“As caregivers, we have experienced a lot of joy and satisfaction in being able to provide a good home and stable environment for children.  Our own children have had to adjust to changes within the family unit, which at times has brought out both the best and worst in them.  Overall however, it has been a rewarding and loving experience for our children as well as the children placed with us.

“It can be unpredictable at times, and you sometimes think you just cannot do enough to help, but there is a team of people, both from the Department of Child Safety, Youth and Women as well as our Case Manager behind the scenes providing support.”
