Youturn has been delivering services to young people in the Toowoomba region for a long time now, but in August of 2020, Youturn’s CEO made an announcement about a significant capital investment of $400,000 which Youturn would be committing to, to establish additional affordable housing for young people in Toowoomba.
This investment of two new two-bedroom townhouses, would provide much needed transitional accommodation in this region to support youth who have transited from homelessness, into crisis housing, have the support they need before they take the next step to independent living.
Youturn worked closely with the Toowoomba council and other planning partners to finalise plans and construction will commence shortly.
In addition, Youturn has expanded our community support by offering laundry facilities, delivering expanded Emergency Relief from our Hume Street centre, as well as participating in numerous community engagement activities. We wish to thank Protea Place in particular for helping with ER delivery, while we were getting our house in order.
This year, Youturn also participated in a Youth Homelessness Round Table to build a support network with other like-minded organisations in Toowoomba, including Yellow Bridge, Emerge, DGT Employment and Training, Mission Australia and Lifeline to collaborate and seek solutions to address youth homelessness in Toowoomba. This partnership model would work with whole of youth sectors including schools, TAFE, training, outreach, businesses and government to increase awareness, engage key influencers and map out a strong plan.
