Brenda was weighed down by debt.

Oct 09

Brenda was weighed down by debt.

Brenda is a young single 24 yr old woman who, until early this year, lived in a situation of extreme family violence. She was homeless, following years of physical, psychological, and financial abuse which led her to fleeing the family home.   Brenda suffered significant emotional and mental distress by carrying the financial burden of fraudulent debt taken out in her name without her knowledge, and as a joint borrower on a loan she was forced to sign under duress.

Once Brenda was accepted into crisis accommodation, she requested help from our Money Matter team to provide budgeting and money management strategies, to assist her to take control of her finances and begin to build a financially secure future for herself.

Our Youturn Team helped provide information and guidance, negotiate realistic payment plans and referred Brenda to other supports.

Brenda has now been able to work toward securing her future without the threat of someone else’s debt holding her back.

“I felt like I was treading water and getting nowhere. I was exhausted, but Youturn helped me make sense of my predicament   – now I can take control of my life and move on…”

Our organisation is a company limited by guarantee. We are registered with the Australian Charities and Not for Profit Commission (ACNC), classified a Public Benevolent Institution (PBI) with Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status.
